Why Recovery Is Your Most Important Training Session
In a performance-driven culture, a break is often mistaken for stagnation. In sports, it's the opposite.

Why VO2max is considered a key marker for performance today
It is precisely this blend of balance, core tension, endurance, and responsiveness that makes water sports so demanding in the long term. Shoulders, back, core, and joints are constantly under stress, while concentration and coordinative control must also be maintained. In addition, environmental factors such as sun, wind, cold water, or long active sessions can further tax the energy balance and immune system.
Those who wish to perform well and stay healthy in water sports for many years therefore need more than just pure fitness. Crucial factors are a resilient musculoskeletal system, stable joints, efficient regeneration, and the body's ability to sustainably manage recurrent stress. It is precisely this long-term physical resilience that is at the heart of modern Athletic Longevity.
Water sports demand constant core tension. When surfing or kitesurfing, the muscles continuously work to maintain balance and control, while the water surface is constantly changing.
The torso, shoulder girdle, and hips, in particular, are under constant strain. Even small movements must be stabilized to efficiently transfer power to the board, sail, or traction system. It is precisely these many small compensatory movements that make water sports physically demanding.
When windsurfing, high stresses are also created by tensile forces and rotations. Shoulders, forearms, and back constantly work against wind pressure and unstable movements. Waterskiing, in turn, generates strong forces on the knees, hips, and lower back – especially at high speeds or abrupt changes in direction.
From the outside, many of these movements appear fluid and controlled. In reality, however, the body is almost continuously working on stability, reaction, and power transmission.
Water sports stress the body not only through movement but also through external influences. Long sessions in cold water, wind, or intense sun exposure significantly increase the demands on regeneration and physical resilience.
Especially cold temperatures and wind can further challenge the immune system. At the same time, long active phases increase energy consumption, while sun and UV radiation can increase oxidative stress in the body. Studies show that intense outdoor exertion can be associated with an increased need for regeneration and cellular protection.
Additionally, many water sports are difficult to perform "passively". Even in calmer moments, the body remains tensed to maintain balance and control. This often leads to an underestimated continuous strain on muscles and the nervous system.
Especially during long surf or kite sessions, not only fitness plays a role but also the body's ability to efficiently provide energy and compensate for stress over the long term.
Although water sports are often perceived as gentler on the joints than classic impact sports (sports with impact stress such as running and basketball), characteristic stress patterns still emerge.
In surfing, the focus is primarily on the shoulders, upper back, and lower back. Repeated paddling stresses shoulder joints and the rotator cuff over many repetitions. At the same time, standing up on the board demands high explosiveness and mobility.
Kitesurfing and windsurfing additionally heavily strain forearms, hands, and core muscles due to continuous pulling. Especially during longer sessions, there are high demands on grip strength and stability.
Water skiing, on the other hand, generates significantly higher impact and pulling forces. Knees, hips, and spine must control strong accelerations and changes of direction, especially at high speeds or during jumps.
Many complaints do not arise suddenly but gradually due to repeated micro-stresses. Shoulder problems, back tension, or overuse in the hip and knee areas are therefore among the most common issues in water sports.
Evage was developed to help active individuals enjoy their sport healthily in the long term.
Water sports particularly demonstrate that performance is more than pure muscular strength. Those who want to surf, windsurf, or kitesurf long-term need above all stability, body tension, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
At the same time, regeneration and energy supply play a central role. Due to the combination of physical exertion, environmental stimuli, and often long active sessions, the body requires high resilience at the muscular and cellular level.
It is precisely this mix of movement, coordination, and natural environment that makes water sports so special for many people. They intensely challenge the body without exclusively stressing it through monotonous loads – and precisely therein lies their long-term value.
The Evage product range was developed for active individuals who want to pursue their favorite sport healthily and long-term.
Evage Focus offers an ideal combination of active ingredients to strengthen eyes and concentration and reduce oxidative stress.
Evage Elevate, as a high-quality active Q10 source (Ubiquinol), is the ideal complement to Evage Focus. It supports the body in efficiently providing energy and improving regeneration.
The combination of Evage Flex and Evage Core therefore offers comprehensive support for racket sports players. It supports joint protection, stability, and regeneration and helps to play tennis or padel performantly and healthily in the long term.
